Channel Your Energy

I've just come home from a run. It wasn't great to be honest. I stupidly signed up for a half marathon after a couple of wines in the pub over Christmas....and now here I am struggling through a rainy 7k! What was I thinking?! Luckily a helpful man on my Nike Run app was talking alongside Calvin Harris (my go-to) and what he said about ENERGY has resonated with me so much I have to share!
Anything we find challenging in life creates energy. Challenging situations can make us feel scared & anxious. The problem is we're not always mindful of the effect these feelings have on our behaviour. We decide to turn away from that promotion opportunity...we don't offer ourselves up to run that presentation...we choose to 'play it safe'. Understandable as our brain can react to these challenges in the same way as it used to react to physical threats from sabre-toothed tigers back in the day.
But these challenges aren't life threatening! What if we reframe those anxious feelings, recognising that the butterfly in the stomach is just our energy being channelled in the wrong way? After all, nervousness and excitement are closely linked. Let's channel those worries into excitement about the promotion! The presentation! If only to feel smug afterwards at just how well we did!
It's YOUR energy.
YOU choose how to channel it.
Talking of smugness, I'm very much feeling that way after completing my soggy run....almost worth the pain of making myself go out and do it... and with that smugness comes a proper sense of achievement - leading to renewed energy which I'm choosing to channel into writing this post!
